Clothing Drive Helps Future Professionals

Everyone at Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C. decided to pay it forward by removing one of the barriers that can stop men and women from attaining a life-changing job: the right clothes.

First collecting clothing in the New Haven office and then Hartford, NPM pulled together suits, skirts, blouses, purses, shoes, and other accessories before delivering the items to Dress for Success and The WorkPlace.  Dress for Success Worldwide is the leading resource for advancing women in the workplace globally.  Its purpose is to empower women to achieve economic mobility by providing a global network of support, workplace attire, and development tools for success.  The mission of The WorkPlace is to develop a well-educated, well-trained, and self-sufficient workforce that can confidently compete in today’s changing global marketplace.

If someone doesn’t have a suit or “nice” clothing to wear to a job interview, the chances of success decrease.  However, a well-dressed applicant can silently express respect for the interview process and respect for the potential employer.  Then, the conversation can focus on skill sets and experience.

“We initially thought that this would be a good idea but, I was surprised at just how well it fits with our culture,” said Greg Pepe, founding partner.  “The response was fast and generous.  It shows that our employees want to help others to get the right job, which can provide so much more than a paycheck.”

Employees were glad to share gently used items that represented an investment but no longer worked for them, clothing that could mean more to someone else.

“It was great to meet with a few of the strong women who are championing DFS,” said Jane Ballerini, partner, who welcomed representatives to the office as items were delivered.  “It seems like a simple idea but there are logistics that DFS and The WorkPlace handle beautifully.  They create an amazing space for women to use clothing to feel prepared, confident and comfortable.  The positive energy is contagious!  I’d love to sit in on some of their ‘fitting’ sessions to see the transformations!”
