Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C. Attorney Begins Term with AFLN Amicus Briefs Committee
February 2, 2024Christopher J. Picard, Esq., principal with the New Haven law firm Neubert, Pepe, & Monteith, P.C., has begun his term as vice chair with the American Legal and Financial Network’s Amicus Briefs Committee.
A national, nonprofit legal services-based association serving the financial services industry, AFLN also hosts advocacy events on behalf of the mortgage servicing industry.
According to the AFLN website, “The Amicus Briefs Committee monitors appellate cases with the potential for major industry or practitioner impact. The group reviews and approves submitted cases as well as coordinates position development, authorship, and submission of amicus briefs on behalf of the ALFN.”
Regular meetings are held quarterly but also as cases are suggested or as necessary.
Of his tenure with the committee, Attorney Picard said, “I’m honored to serve on behalf of the AFLN and its members. As we support the legal community with our work, I look forward to the interesting and important conversations we’ll have.”
Attorney Picard’s practice centers on handling creditor’s rights issues and real estate litigation in state, federal and bankruptcy courts inclusive of handling appellate matters. His clients include national banks and servicers along with local lenders.
He began practicing law in 2000 after serving in the United States Navy as a diver from 1987 to 1993.
After completion of his active duty, Attorney Picard attended Boston College where he served as president of the Boston College Men’s Rugby Team. He remains active in the rugby community by serving as a judicial officer for Rugby Americas North, USA Rugby, and National Collegiate Rugby, and occasionally refereeing matches in New England.
Douglas Skalka, managing partner for the firm, said, “We are proud of Chris and the skills he contributes to our firm on behalf of our clients. We’re fortunate that he is willing to add the committee’s important work to his already busy schedule. I’m sure that his fellow committee members will enjoy his company and thoughtful consideration of the law as much as we do.”
Attorney Picard added, “On a personal note, I’m grateful for the opportunity to participate in this type of community involvement and want to thank my family in advance for their patience and support.”
His term will continue until the end of 2025, when he will move to the position of chair until December 2027.
