Christopher J. Picard Appointed as a Judicial Officer to the RAN 7s Rugby Tournament

Attorney Christopher J. Picard was appointed as a Judicial Officer to the RAN 7s Rugby Tournament held last month in Nassau, Bahamas. The event doubled as a Qualifier for both the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham England and the Rugby World Cup (RWC) Sevens 2022 in Cape Town South Africa.

Judicial Officers are lawyers of at least seven-years standing who are independent. They sit either alone or as chair of a three-person Disciplinary Committee featuring ex-players, coaches, and referees with recent experience of the Game. At the RAN 7s Tournament, Attorney Picard was part of a disciplinary team of five members consisting of three citing commissioners, a judicial officer and an appellate officer.

Chris started playing rugby while stationed in Sasebo, Japan on the USS Brunswick in 1990 eventually transitioning into coaching then refereeing.  As a referee, he was placed on the B Panel and received several National appointments. As part of his ongoing involvement with rugby, Chris became a Judicial Officer through World Rugby in 2012 and has been engaged in this role since that time. In addition to his appointment as a Judicial Officer, Chris serves on the Disciplinary Panel for Major League Rugby for the 2022 season as a Judicial and Appellate Officer.

Chris’s practice centers on handling creditor’s rights issues and real estate litigation in state, federal and bankruptcy courts inclusive of handling appellate matters. Chris is expanding his practice to include commercial litigation. His clients include national banks and servicers along with local lenders.
