Attorneys Provide Pro Bono Legal Services to Veterans at the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs’ Annual Stand Down Event
November 22, 2023Dennis Carnelli, principal, volunteered his time and skills to join fellow Connecticut Bar Association members at the 2023 Connecticut Veterans Stand Down event. According to the CBA, “[The event] was established after the Vietnam War and provides veterans with ‘one-stop’ access to a range of programs and services offered by state and federal agencies, Veterans organizations, and community-based non-profits.”
A U.S. Army veteran, Attorney Carnelli serves as chairman of the CBA’s Veteran and Military Affairs Section. In a CBA article titled CBA Members Volunteer at Stand Down 2023, he described how volunteer attorneys in the private sector worked together with volunteer attorneys from government agencies and non-profits to assist veterans attending the event. “Volunteer attorneys from the CBA worked in tandem with attorneys from the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center, the Connecticut Attorney General’s office, and other government agencies to ensure that veterans were matched with attorneys who could provide appropriate guidance.”
He added, “I look forward to the CBA’s continued presence at future Stand Downs, which will become of increasing importance as we find ourselves farther removed from post-9/11 military conflicts.”
